Service of Remembrance for Jack Kerouac on October 21

Jack Kerouac passed away on October 21, 1969 in St. Petersburg, Florida at the age of 47.

His body was brought to his hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts where his wake was held at the Archambault Funeral Home. His Funeral Mass was held at the St. Jean Baptiste Church with Father Armand “Spike” Morrissette officiating. He is buried in Lowell’s Edson Cemetery.

To observe the 50th Anniversary of his passing, a Service of Remembrance will be held at the Archambault Funeral Home at 309 Pawtucket St. at 6:00 p.m.

The Archambault Funeral Home is preparing a special exhibit for the occasion that highlights and honors the life of Jack Kerouac.

Leading the service will be Rev. Steve Edington, a retired Unitarian Universalist minister and a 25 year member of the Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Committee. Speaking will be Jim Sampas, the Literary Executor of the Estate of Jack Kerouac.

The service will be followed by a Memorial Walk down Merrimack Street, past the former St. Jean Baptiste Church, to The Old Worthen Tavern for a celebration of the life and legacy of Jack Kerouac.
