LCK Festival 2014: October 9 to 12

The 2014 LCK Festival will be held on October 9 to 12 among the blue city lights of Lowell, Mass. Save the date. We'll keep you posted on the schedule and activities as we get them in place.

Sneak Preview of Big Sur, October 15

The Regent Theatre in Arlington, Mass, will be hosting a sneak preview of a movie adaptation of Jack's book Big Sur on October 15 at 7:30pm. Executive producer Jim Sampas will introduce the film and host an audience Q&A. Tickets are $10.

Hotel rooms for 2013 LCK Festival

Hotel accommodations information at the Marriott Courtyard for the Jack Kerouac Literary Festival in Lowell, MA, from October 10 to October 13.

The Courtyard is located very close to Edson Cemetery where Jack was laid to rest. One would need a car or to car pool to get to our events. We have been able to secure a $90 per room rate for a block of rooms. There are 10 rooms reserved for Friday and Saturday nights. There are 3 rooms reserved for Thursday and Sunday nights.

July 28: Walking Tour of Jack Kerouac's Downtown Lowell

On Sunday July 28, Roger Brunelle, LCK's resident tour master, will lead a "Walking Tour of Jack Kerouac's Downtown Lowell." The tour will start at the Kerouac Commemmorative Park on the corner of Bridge and French Streets (map). The 90-minute tour will start at 10:30 am.

Kerouac Bobble Head Night 2013: Lowell Spinners vs. Brooklyn Cyclones

Tonight, Thursday, July 25, the Lowell Spinners play the Brooklyn Cyclones at 7pm at Lelacheur Park in Lowell. (Get tickets.) Last year, the Spinners offered a Jack Kerouac bobble head--or bobble thumb, rather--doll to the first 1000 ticket holders. This year, the Spinners will be offering a bobble head doll featuring Jack Kerouac in his Lowell High School football uniform.

Jack Kerouac's Lowell tour series continues in June!

Update, June 7: Bum deal. The weather in Lowell on June 8 will be very New Englandish (bad), so the June 8 tour is cancelled.

Visions of Gerard reading, May 14

On May 14 at 6:30pm at the Old Court (29-31 Central St., Lowell), UMass Lowell Libraries and LCK will be holding a public reading from Kerouac's Visions of Gerard. Food will be provided by the UML English department. Drinks are on you. Head downtown and be part of of the action.

Jack Kerouac's Lowell tour series kicks off on May 4

Lowell Celebrates Kerouac! experts on great American writer Jack Kerouac’s youth in Lowell and his Lowell novels will lead a monthly series of tours that portray him from cradle to grave, including his many family homes, churches, schools, library, the French-Canadian neighborhoods where he grew up, and the landmarks of the city that he loved. Through visiting the significant Kerouac sites, attendees will learn of the lifelong influence of Lowell on shaping his remarkable body of work as seen in his novels, poems, journals, and letters.
